Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)

What is EMDR?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing and is a mind-body approach to processing psychological issues. EMDR uses a concept called bilateral stimulation (BLS) to dampen the power of a person’s emotionally charged memories. The BLS can be done in many ways, but is traditionally done using a person’s own rapid, rhythmic eye movements. Following successful EMDR, the traumatic edge of a memory is gone, and therefore it is less upsetting.

EMDR can help with a wide variety of applications and issues, and I have experienced success in treating the following issues:

  • Trauma and PTSD

  • Unresolved anger

  • Acute Trauma (e.g. MVA’s)

  • Childhood Trauma

  • Anxiety

  • Abuse (physical, emotional, sexual)

  • Chronic Stress

  • Complicated Grief

  • Panic Attacks

  • Pain Disorders

  • Performance Anxiety/Perfectionism

  • Phobias

  • Shame and low self-worth
